Nearly one in five people in the Australian Capital Territory volunteer, making it one of the most active areas for community work in the country. While volunteering has dipped since 2011, the region still sees a high level of engagement in both unpaid care and military service.

At 18.4%, volunteering is much higher here than in most other areas and well above the national figure of 14.1%. However, this rate has fallen by 2.7 percentage points since 2011.
Unpaid care & work
Caring for others and unpaid domestic work.
Unpaid childcare is common, with 28.3% of people providing this care, which is a little above the national figure. While the rate of people providing other unpaid care has risen slightly to 12.0%, those doing 15 or more hours of housework fell to 19.3%.
