Much lower volunteering rates than most other states mark Victoria, where only 13.3% of people help out. While unpaid care work is common, overall community participation has seen a notable decline over the last decade.

A little more than 12.9% of people provide unpaid care, which is much higher than most areas. Meanwhile, those caring for children unpaid or doing 15 or more hours of housework each week both sit around the national figure of 20% to 26%.
