The languages spoken in homes across the area, beyond English.
A rise of 6.5 percentage points since 2011 shows 250,000 to 999,999 is becoming more linguistically diverse. Now, nearly one in four people here speaks a language other than English at home, which is much higher than in most similar areas.

Around 24.6% of residents use another language at home, which is a little above the national figure of 22.3%. While English is the main language for 71.2% of people, Mandarin is the most common second language at 3.2%, and very few people (2.5%) speak little or no English.
