The languages spoken in homes across the area, beyond English.
Nearly 21% of people in Major Urban use a language other than English at home, which is a much higher rate than most similar areas. This reflects a diverse community where English is the main language, but several other tongues are common. The number of people speaking other languages has risen by 4.1 percentage points since 2011.

While English is spoken by 73.6% of residents, Mandarin is the next most common language at 2.4%, followed by Italian, Vietnamese and Punjabi. The 2.7% of people who speak little or no English is much higher than in most similar areas, though this figure has barely changed since 2016.
