Fewer people in Newcastle are spending their time on unpaid work and volunteering than they were in 2011. While 15.2% of residents still volunteer, this is a significant drop from the 23.6% seen a decade ago. The area's community spirit remains steady, but the way people contribute has shifted.

Far fewer people here perform unpaid care compared to other areas. Only 24.1% care for children and 18.5% do 15 or more hours of housework, both of which have fallen since 2011. Meanwhile, 12.2% provide general unpaid care, which is about the same as the national figure.
