Well above the state and national figures, residents of The Rock show a remarkably high level of community and family support. About 20% of the population volunteers their time, and a significant number of people are dedicated to unpaid care work. This community is far more active in these roles than people in most other Australian areas.

Unpaid work is a major part of life for many, as 30.1% care for children and 26.6% spend 15 or more hours a week on housework. Both figures are well above the state and national averages, and 14.9% of residents provide some form of unpaid care.
