Twenty-one point seven per cent of people in the South East volunteer, a rate well above the national figure. This high level of community involvement stands out, even though the number of volunteers has fallen since 2011. Local residents are more likely to give their time to others than people in most other parts of Australia.

About 21.7% of the population volunteer, which is among the highest rates for similar areas and well above the 14.1% national figure. This is a drop from 2011, when 26.8% of people volunteered.
Unpaid care & work
Caring for others and unpaid domestic work.
Unpaid work is common here, with 24.6% of people doing 15 or more hours of housework weekly, a figure well above the national average. While 13.4% provide unpaid care—which is much higher than most areas—the proportion of people caring for children unpaid is slightly below the national figure at 23.6%.
