Nearly one in five people volunteer in the South Coast, which is well above the national figure. This region shows a strong commitment to community work and care, though the proportion of volunteers has fallen since 2011. It is an area where people are more likely to serve others and their families than in most other parts of the country.

Many residents take on unpaid work, with 26.6% doing 15 or more hours of housework weekly, a figure well above the national average. While 13.4% provide some form of unpaid care, only 20.8% care for children unpaid, which is well below the New South Wales figure of 25.3%.
