More than six in ten people in Gulf use a language other than English at home, which is among the highest rates for similar areas. This linguistic diversity is a standout feature of the region, with 62.7% of residents speaking another language.

The proportion of people using another language at home rose 6.7 points since 2011 to 62.7%, a figure far above the national rate of 22.3%. While 25.2% speak only English, 5.6% of the population speak little or no English, which is a little above the Northern Territory figure.
