The languages spoken in homes across the area, beyond English.
Nearly half of all residents in Christmas Island speak a language other than English at home, making it one of the most linguistically diverse areas in the region. With 44.7% of people using another language, the community is far more multilingual than the national figure.

Mandarin is the most common non-English language at 13.9%, followed by Cantonese at 3.7%. This diversity is reflected in the 12.2% of people who speak little or no English, which is well above the 3.4% national figure.
