Over half of all residents in Liverpool speak a language other than English at home. This makes the area far more linguistically diverse than the rest of the state or country, with a trend that has only grown over the last decade.

About 53.8% of people use another language at home, a figure far above the national 22.3%. While English is used by 39.5% of residents, Arabic is the most common second language at 13.1%, followed by Vietnamese at 5.3%. This high level of diversity is seen in the 9.8% who speak little or no English, which is well above the 3.4% national figure.
