Stawell Halls Gap
Stawell and Halls Gap (L) are two nearby Victorian areas with very different profiles. Stawell is a larger town where a far higher share of people are employed full-time (56.0%) and many more are recent arrivals from overseas (26.4%). It is also very walkable, with 89.5% of homes within 15 minutes of a school and 80.1% near groceries. In contrast, Halls Gap (L) is a smaller settlement with far higher rates of university degrees (25.0%) and Year 12 completion (57.7%). It has a much more transient population, with 45.2% of people having moved there in the last five years, and a far higher share of renters (40.9%).
Both areas are very similar in their lack of public transport use for commuting and the share of people who have served in the Defence Force. However, the gaps between them are shifting. While Stawell used to be the older area, the typical resident is now only five years older than in Halls Gap (L). Other gaps have widened over time, such as the number of people working from home and those in de facto relationships, both of which are now far higher in Halls Gap (L).
