Bathurst Penrith
Bathurst and Penrith are both large populations in New South Wales, but they offer very different lifestyles. Bathurst is a more established area where residents are noticeably older, with a typical age of 42 and a higher share of people aged 65 and over (21.2%). It is also more likely for people to own their homes outright (38.0%) and live in a separate house (88.2%). In contrast, Penrith is more urban and diverse, with 19.7% of people born overseas and a much higher share of people working from home (28.5%).
Both areas have unemployment rates that sit very close to the national figure. While they share similar household sizes and proportions of people in de facto relationships, the gap in their housing and diversity is changing. Since 2011, the difference in the share of people born overseas and those using other languages at home has narrowed. At the same time, Penrith has become much more likely to have residents working from home compared to Bathurst.
