Churchlands vs Herdsman

Churchlands and Herdsman are neighbouring areas in Western Australia, but they serve very different purposes. Churchlands is a residential suburb with 3,638 people and a very walkable environment, while Herdsman is largely non-residential with a population of zero. Churchlands is far more connected, with 20 public transport stops compared to none in Herdsman. This makes Churchlands much more accessible; 98.3% of its homes are within a 10 minute walk of public transport, while that figure is only 59.2% for Herdsman.

Both areas have a similar level of access to groceries, with about 51% of homes within a 15 minute walk. This is one of the few things they share, along with similar average school sizes. However, the gap in walkability remains huge, with Churchlands described as very walkable and Herdsman as mostly car-dependent. This is consistent with the street layout, as Churchlands has far more intersections per square kilometre than Herdsman.
