Burns Beach vs Tamala Park

Burns Beach and Tamala Park are neighbouring areas with very different levels of development. Burns Beach is a populated hub where residents enjoy a somewhat walkable environment, with 62.3% of homes having a 15-minute-city walkshed. In contrast, Tamala Park is largely non-residential and mostly car-dependent, with no homes within a 15-minute walk of schools, groceries or health services. Burns Beach also has significantly more infrastructure, including 18 public transport stops and 179 street intersections per square kilometre, compared to just one stop and 12 intersections in Tamala Park.

These two areas have tracked differently since 2011 as Burns Beach has grown into a more connected suburb while Tamala Park has remained sparsely populated. Despite these diverging paths, they share some basic geography and access, with both taking about 23 to 24 minutes to drive into the city and having the same number of public transport routes.
