Mount Carbine is the more established of the two, with a population of 94 people, while Dedin is effectively non-residential with zero residents. The most notable difference is that Mount Carbine has seven Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, whereas Dedin has none.

These two neighbours share a complete lack of local infrastructure, as neither has any schools, public transport routes, or transport stops.
