Upper Kangaroo River and Budderoo are neighbouring rural areas in New South Wales. Budderoo is largely non-residential with no recorded population, while Upper Kangaroo River has 151 people. There are significant differences in their typical incomes, with Budderoo well higher at $2,250 per week compared to $1,781 in Upper Kangaroo River. Both areas are car-dependent and lack basic local services, as neither has any homes within a 15-minute walk of a school, park, or grocery store. These similarities in remoteness stand out even as the gap in typical household income continues to widen. While Upper Kangaroo River has one school within 3 km, Budderoo has none.
