Bogong Peaks Wilderness vs Goobarragandra

Goobarragandra and Bogong Peaks Wilderness are both sparsely populated areas of New South Wales. Goobarragandra has a small population of 89 people, while Bogong Peaks Wilderness is largely non-residential with no residents. The terrain is much steeper in Goobarragandra, where the mean slope is 18.1%, compared to 6.8% in Bogong Peaks Wilderness. Goobarragandra also has a far larger number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with 4 people living there compared to none in Bogong Peaks Wilderness.

These two nearby areas have remained similarly remote, and the gap between them in terms of basic services is not closing. Both are completely car-dependent, with no homes within a 15-minute walk of groceries, health services, or schools. Neither area has any public transport stops or routes, which is common for such sparsely populated places.
