Sydney - Outer South West and Sydney - Eastern Suburbs are two very different parts of the city. In contrast, the Outer South West is more residential and family-oriented, with 86.1% of homes having three or more bedrooms compared to just 45.6% in the Eastern Suburbs. This difference is clear in the housing, as 84.2% of homes in the Outer South West are separate houses, while most people in the Eastern Suburbs live in flats or apartments.
Both areas share some common ground in their everyday life, such as similar unemployment rates and a nearly identical share of people who speak little or no English. However, the gaps between them are often growing. The difference in typical weekly incomes has increased since 2011, and the gap in people working from home has widened significantly. The Eastern Suburbs remains a walker's paradise, while the Outer South West is somewhat walkable.
