Wanneroo South Perth
Wanneroo and South Perth are nearby Western Australian areas with very different living patterns. South Perth is a highly educated, very walkable hub where 42.9% of adults hold a bachelor degree or higher and most homes are within a 15-minute walk of health services. In contrast, Wanneroo is a sprawling residential area with far more detached houses (92.1%) and larger homes, with 92.5% having three or more bedrooms. This is reflected in a younger population, with 22.1% of residents being children under 15, compared to just 14.4% in South Perth.
Since 2011, the gap in university qualifications and home ownership has widened between the two areas, though they have grown more similar in their rental rates and the proportion of children. Despite these shifts, they share several commonalities, such as a similar share of people who use another language at home (about 20%) and nearly identical typical weekly rents of around $350 to $360.
