Harvey Murray
Harvey and Murray are two rural Western Australian areas with a few key differences. Harvey is more diverse and connected, with 15.7% of residents arriving from overseas recently and a far larger number of public transport stops. Murray has a higher share of high earners, with 17.8% earning $2,000 or more a week, and a higher rate of First Nations Year 12 completion at 35.7%. This is also seen in the local workforce, where mining is a major employer in Murray while manufacturing is more common in Harvey.
These two areas share a great deal in common, including very similar typical weekly incomes and the same average number of people per home. They are also alike in the share of adults with a bachelor degree or higher. Over time, some gaps have shifted; for example, the difference in recent overseas arrivals has grown since 2011, while the gap in people living in de facto relationships has narrowed.
