Daintree Port Douglas
Daintree and Port Douglas are two distinct areas in Queensland. Daintree has a much larger Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population at 12.9%, compared to 2.4% in Port Douglas. Port Douglas is far more international, with 29.5% of people born overseas and 24.1% arriving from abroad recently, while Daintree's overseas-born population is much lower at 14.8%. Housing also differs sharply; 88.9% of Daintree's homes are separate houses, which is far higher than the 53.6% in Port Douglas.
These two areas have diverged in several ways since 2011, with the gaps widening for overseas births and the share of separate houses. However, they remain very similar in other respects. Both have about 21% of their population aged 65 and over, and they share nearly identical rates of people working from home and unemployment. Both areas are also very similar in their lack of public transport, with essentially no one using it to commute.
