Capel Collie
Capel and Collie are two Western Australian areas with very different profiles. Capel is a younger and more highly qualified area, where 17.2% of adults have a bachelor degree or higher and 50.6% completed Year 12. It also has a larger overseas-born population, at 21.9%. In contrast, Collie is an older community with a higher proportion of people living alone (31.3%) and more homes owned outright (40.7%). While Capel has much better access to public transport and higher employment rates, Collie has more homes within a 15-minute walk of health services.
The gap in educational attainment has widened since 2011, as Capel has moved further ahead in Year 12 completion and university degrees. Despite these growing differences, the two areas share very similar terrain and temperature. They also have nearly identical rates of people who served in the Defence Force and a similar number of amenity types within a 15-minute walk. Both areas have a high share of residents with no religion, well above the national figure.
