Alyangula vs Numbulwar and Outstations

Alyangula and Numbulwar and Outstations are two distinct Northern Territory locations with very different lifestyles. Alyangula is a compact, somewhat walkable area where most homes are within a 15-minute walk of groceries and schools. It has a high First Nations Year 12 completion rate of 58.3% and a typical First Nations household income of $3,749, which is far above the national figure. In contrast, Numbulwar and Outstations is a vast, car-dependent area with a much larger First Nations population of 675 people. Here, 96.6% of First Nations people speak a First Nations language, though the First Nations unemployment rate is far higher at 27.1%.

These two areas have tracked differently since 2011, with the gap in First Nations personal income and unemployment widening significantly. Despite these diverging trends, they share some basic characteristics.
