Peppimenarti vs Wadeye

Peppimenarti and Wadeye are two remote areas in the Northern Territory. Wadeye is far larger, with 1,650 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people compared to 171 in Peppimenarti. Wadeye has a much higher rate of First Nations Year 12 completion, at 33% compared to 11.4% in Peppimenarti. Other gaps are smaller, but First Nations unemployment is well higher in Wadeye, and more residents there speak a First Nations language.

Since 2011, the two areas have followed similar paths, though some gaps have shifted. Both places have a high proportion of people who speak a First Nations language, far above the national figure. They also share very similar typical First Nations household incomes, both sitting just under $500. While Wadeye has more street intersections per square kilometre, both areas have a small number of walkable amenities.
