Batchelor vs Douglas-Daly

Douglas-Daly and Batchelor are two distinct parts of the Northern Territory, separated by about 115 km. Douglas-Daly has a much larger First Nations population, with 169 people, and 51.5% of residents speak a First Nations language. In contrast, Batchelor is a more compact area where residents have much better access to daily needs; 90.1% of homes are within a 15-minute walk of groceries and 91.8% are near health services. Douglas-Daly is car-dependent, while Batchelor is somewhat walkable.

Both areas have tracked similarly since 2011 in their educational outcomes, with First Nations Year 12 completion sitting at around 16% in both places. They also share a lack of nearby public transport, with no homes within a 10-minute walk of a stop. However, a significant gap remains in employment, as the First Nations unemployment rate is far higher in Batchelor at 34.2%, compared to 11.8% in Douglas-Daly.
