Derwent Valley vs Cygnet

Derwent Valley and Cygnet are two different types of Tasmanian landscapes. Cygnet is very walkable, with 92% of homes in a 15-minute-city walkshed and a walkability score of 6.6 (very walkable). In contrast, Derwent Valley is mostly car-dependent, with only 39.1% of homes in a similar walkshed and a walkability score of 3.9. This gap is clear across the board, with Cygnet having far more homes within a short walk of health services (92.1% compared to 25.3%) and schools (85.7% compared to 47%).

Both areas share a similar typical personal income for First Nations residents, sitting around $500. Beyond this, the two places differ significantly in their First Nations populations. Derwent Valley has a far larger number of First Nations people (756 compared to 200) and a well higher unemployment rate among this group (12.6% compared to 5.7%).
