Gold Coast - North vs Southport

Gold Coast - North and Southport are neighbouring areas with very different levels of local accessibility. Southport is very walkable, with 84.5% of homes in a 15-minute-city walkshed, compared to 70.4% in Gold Coast - North. The most striking gap is in health services, where 75.7% of Southport homes are within a 15-minute walk of a clinic, while only 34.4% of homes in Gold Coast - North have the same access. Southport also has a far higher share of homes within walking distance of schools and groceries.

Both areas have tracked similarly since 2011, and they share several common traits today. They are almost identical in terms of First Nations household and personal incomes, and both have nearly every home within a 15-minute walk of a park. While Southport has a larger First Nations population, both areas see First Nations Year 12 completion rates that are much higher than the national figure.
