Dubbo vs Gilgandra

Dubbo and Gilgandra are two rural areas in New South Wales, but they differ sharply in how people get around and access services. Dubbo is far more walkable, with 82.9% of homes within a 10-minute walk of public transport compared to just 19.6% in Gilgandra. Residents in Dubbo also have much easier access to parks (85.2%) and schools (70.2%) on foot, while Gilgandra is mostly car-dependent. There is also a large difference in their First Nations populations; Dubbo has a far larger community of 7,079 people, who typically earn more and have lower unemployment rates than First Nations residents in Gilgandra.

Both areas share a very similar flat landscape, with almost identical terrain slopes. However, the gap in walkability is wide, as Dubbo is described as somewhat walkable while Gilgandra remains mostly car-dependent. This contrast is most evident in public transport, which is a primary amenity in Dubbo but far less common in Gilgandra.
