Bogan vs Coonamble

Bogan and Coonamble are two rural areas in New South Wales. Coonamble has a far larger Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population, with 1,267 people compared to 440 in Bogan. The two areas differ sharply in First Nations outcomes; in Bogan, typical personal income for First Nations people is well higher at $725, while Coonamble's is $491. First Nations unemployment is also well higher in Coonamble at 15.3%, whereas it is much lower in Bogan at 7.0%.

Both areas have tracked similarly since 2011, maintaining a very similar feel in terms of landscape and layout. They share a similar walkability score (3.7 in Bogan and 4.0 in Coonamble, both car-dependent) and nearly identical shares of people who speak a First Nations language. While both are largely car-dependent, Coonamble has a far higher share of homes within a 15-minute walk of groceries, at 60.9% compared to 46.9% in Bogan.
