Mackellar Wentworth
Mackellar and Wentworth are both populous areas in New South Wales, but they offer very different lifestyles. Wentworth is a walker's paradise with a high concentration of apartments and renters, whereas Mackellar has far more separate houses and residents who own their homes. Wentworth is also much more highly qualified and wealthier, with 53.6% of adults holding a bachelor degree or higher and 34.0% earning $2,000 or more a week, compared to 32.8% and 20.8% in Mackellar. This reflects a contrast between the two, seen in the car-dependent nature of Mackellar—where the drive to the city takes 45 minutes—and the highly connected nature of Wentworth, where that trip takes only 10 minutes.
The gap in rental rates has widened since 2011, with 44.6% of Wentworth households renting compared to just 22.6% in Mackellar. Despite this, the two areas share several similarities, including nearly identical unemployment rates and a similar share of people who identify as having no religion. Both areas also have a high proportion of residents who work from home, although this is far higher in Wentworth at 55.8% than in Mackellar at 39.6%.
