Nearly 30% of people in 100,000 to 249,999 were born overseas, making it one of the most diverse areas of its kind. This international mix is reflected in the local ancestry, where Australian and English roots are the most common but are joined by significant Filipino, Irish and Scottish heritage.

Australian and English are the most common ancestries at 27% and 26.4%, followed by Irish (8.4%), Scottish (7.2%) and Filipino (5.5%).

Australia and the largest overseas communities.
The share of people born overseas rose 6.7 percentage points since 2011 to reach 29.9%, which is a little above the national figure. While 61.9% were born in Australia, the most common overseas birthplaces are the Philippines, India, England and Nepal.
