Far fewer people were born overseas in 5,000 to 9,999 than in most similar areas. Only 8.6% of the population was born outside Australia, which is far below the national figure of 27.7%. This reflects a population with deep roots in Australia and the British Isles.

The ancestries people most identify with.
English and Australian ancestries are the most common, making up 46.8% and 44.4% of the population respectively. Irish, Scottish and German heritage are also reported by smaller groups.

Australia and the largest overseas communities.
The proportion of overseas-born residents has barely changed since 2011, rising slightly from 7.9% to 8.6%. While 84.5% were born in Australia, the most common overseas birthplaces are England and New Zealand.
