Much higher proportions of overseas-born residents live in 100,000 to 249,999 than in most similar areas. While English and Australian ancestries are most common, the area has seen a significant increase in people moving here from abroad over the last decade.

English ancestry is the most common at 41.5%, followed by Australian at 36.2%, Irish at 10.6%, Scottish at 9.3%, and Chinese at 4.4%.

Australia and the largest overseas communities.
About 20.9% of people were born overseas, which is much higher than in most similar areas, though well below the national figure of 27.7%. This share rose 7.0 percentage points since 2011, with the most common birthplaces being Australia (74.8%), England (3.2%), and China (2.7%).
