Nearly 9 percentage points fewer people were born overseas in 20,000 to 49,999 compared to the national figure. While this is much higher than most similar areas, the overall overseas-born population has slipped slightly over the last decade.

English and Australian ancestries are the most common, making up 41.8% and 37.7% of the population respectively. Scottish and Irish roots are also prominent, each accounting for over 9% of residents.

About 19.1% of people were born overseas, a figure that fell 1.3 percentage points since 2011. Most residents were born in Australia (73.6%), followed by England at 5.1% and New Zealand at 3.1%.
