A steady mix of backgrounds defines 500 or more, where the share of overseas-born residents has barely changed since 2011. With 81.5% of people born in Australia, the area remains much more domestically born than the national average.

English and Australian are the most common ancestries, making up 43.8% and 41.6% of the population respectively. German, Scottish, and Irish backgrounds follow as the next most frequent.

Only 10.8% of people here were born overseas, which is far below the Australian figure of 27.7% and much lower than most similar areas. England is the most common overseas birthplace at 5.0%.
