Where people and their families come from — the ancestries they identify with and where they were born.
A far lower share of people were born overseas in 500 or more compared to the national figure, with only 12.2% of residents arriving from another country. This makes the area much less diverse in birthplace than most other regions across Australia.

The ancestries people most identify with.
English and Australian are the most common ancestries here, making up 38.9% and 36.7% of the population. Irish, Scottish and German ancestries also make up significant portions of the community.

Australia and the largest overseas communities.
Just 12.2% of people were born overseas, a figure that is far below the Australian average of 27.7% and has barely changed since 2011. Most residents were born in Australia (79.3%), followed by England, New Zealand, the Philippines and South Africa.
