More people have moved to 1 million or more from overseas since 2011, with the share of overseas-born residents rising by 4.2 percentage points to 36.9%. This makes the area much more diverse than the national average. English and Australian are the most common ancestries, though Chinese and Irish roots are also strongly represented.
