Overseas births have risen by 3.1 percentage points since 2011 in 250,000 to 999,999, reaching 16.2% of the population. While this is higher than in most similar areas, it remains far below the national figure of 27.7%. The region is predominantly Australian-born, with strong ties to English and Irish roots.

English ancestry is the most common at 40.6%, followed by Australian at 38.5%. Irish and Scottish roots are also prominent, accounting for 11.4% and 10.7% of the population respectively.
