Far more people were born overseas in Major Urban than in most similar areas, with 26.8% of the population arriving from abroad. This reflects a diverse community where English, Australian, and Irish are the most common ancestries.
Ancestry
The ancestries people most identify with.
English ancestry is the most frequent at 37.3%, followed by Australian at 31.4% and Irish at 11.2%. Scottish and German ancestries also feature prominently at 10.2% and 5.5% respectively.

Australia and the largest overseas communities.
The proportion of people born overseas rose 2.0 percentage points since 2011 to reach 26.8%, which is about the same as the national figure. While 68.2% were born in Australia, other common birthplaces include New Zealand at 4.7% and England at 4.0%.
