Diverse heritage and overseas arrivals shape the daily lives of people in Black. Most residents claim English or Australian ancestry, though over a quarter of the population was born outside Australia.

The ancestries people most identify with.
English ancestry is the most common at 45.9%, followed by Australian at 33.3% and Scottish at 10.5%. Irish and German roots are also present in about 10% and 7% of residents respectively.

About 27.0% of people were born overseas, a figure that has risen by 3.1 percentage points since 2011. This is a little above the South Australian figure and about the same as the national average.
