A higher share of residents were born overseas in Scopus than in most similar areas. While over half the population claims Australian ancestry, the community also has strong British and Irish roots.

About 17.9% of people were born overseas, which is a little above the Tasmanian figure of 15.4% but well below the national 27.7%. New Zealand is the most common overseas birthplace at 7.1%.
