Ancestry & Birthplace in Research
Where people and their families come from — the ancestries they identify with and where they were born.
Far fewer people were born overseas in Research than in the wider state or nation. While 84.5% of the population was born in Australia, the area's roots remain strongly tied to British and Irish heritage.

The ancestries people most identify with.
English ancestry is the most common at 41.1%, followed closely by Australian at 39.4%. Irish, Scottish, and Italian ancestries also feature prominently in the community.

Australia and the largest overseas communities.
Only 14.1% of residents were born overseas, which is higher than most similar areas but far below the Victorian figure of 30.0% and the national rate of 27.7%. Outside of Australia, England is the most frequent birthplace at 4.2%.
