Far fewer people were born overseas in Federal compared to the rest of the state, with only 20.8% born abroad. While the area has a strong connection to the UK and Ireland, the overall proportion of overseas-born residents remains well below the national figure.

English ancestry is the most common at 39.7%, followed by Australian at 28.7% and Irish at 14.5%. Scottish and German roots are also present, making up 10.7% and 4.7% of the population respectively.

Only 20.8% of residents were born overseas, which is much higher than in most similar areas but well below the New South Wales figure of 29.3%. Most people were born in Australia (66.8%), while the largest overseas groups are from England (4.6%) and New Zealand (2.3%).
