Much higher rates of non-religious residents than most similar areas define the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Nearly half the population now identifies as having no religion, a figure that has climbed sharply in recent years.

The number of people reporting no religion rose 21 points since 2011 to reach 48.8%, which is well above the national figure of 38.9%. This group is now the largest, followed by Christians at 40.5%.
