Forty-three point eight per cent of people in Phillip were born overseas, a figure far above the national average. This makes the area much more internationally diverse than most other regions in the territory. The community is shaped by a strong mix of Australian, English, and Indian backgrounds.

English ancestry is the most common at 25.2%, followed by Australian at 20.7% and Irish at 9.7%. Indian and Scottish heritage are also prominent, each accounting for over 8% of the population.
