Nearly half of all residents in Sunshine were born overseas, a figure that has risen since 2011. This high level of migration is reflected in the community's diverse roots, with Vietnamese and Chinese ancestry now which are as common as English or Australian heritage.

English and Australian are the most common ancestries at 17% each, but Vietnamese ancestry is just as prevalent at 15.7%. Chinese and Irish roots follow at 7.4% and 6.6%.
