A growing number of overseas-born residents now call Central Highlands (Tas.) home, with that figure rising 2.1 percentage points since 2011. While the area remains dominated by those with English and Australian ancestry, the proportion of people born outside Australia has climbed to 10.1%.

English and Australian ancestry are the most common, accounting for 44.2% and 42.3% of the population respectively. Other frequent ancestries include Irish at 9.4% and Scottish at 7.7%.

Only 10.1% of people here were born overseas, which is far below the national figure of 27.7% and well below Tasmania's 15.4%. Most residents were born in Australia (79.1%), followed by England at 3.4% and New Zealand at 1.1%.
