A rise of 6.1 percentage points since 2011 highlights how Sydney has become increasingly international. Nearly half of all residents were born overseas, making the city far more diverse than the rest of the state or country.

Nearly half of residents—48.6%—were born overseas, a figure far above the national rate of 27.7%. While 44.6% were born in Australia, the most common overseas birthplaces are China at 7.8% and England at 4.8%.
