A small increase in the overseas-born population has been seen in Rest of Vic., where only 12.4% of people were born outside Australia. This is a much lower proportion than in most other areas, reflecting a population with deep roots in Australia and the British Isles.

English and Australian ancestries are the most common, making up 40.6% and 39.2% of the population respectively. Irish, Scottish and German roots also feature prominently in the region.
